Speech of the President of the Union of the Comoros
In the Concluding Session


The president of the Union of the Comoros Mr. Ahmed Abdullah SAMBI assured today that the economic summit currently held in the State of Kuwait represents a great hope for the peoples, and that youth are looking forward to its results, stressing that its timing maximizes its importance.

 

President SAMBI said in his speech before the concluding session of the summit that the economic summit that gathers us today is the hope for our peoples. In addition, it is being held in very complicated and sensitive international circumstances either on the political or the economic level. He assured that peoples have great hopes on this summit and that youth are looking at it as the summit of the future.

 

He added that: "As the summit is being held in very complicated and sensitive international circumstances, this doubles our responsibility as we have to discuss our situations objectively".

 

He also said: " The political situation is one of the keys to economy, and that political success is the first door to humanitarian and cultural development as we are all bound to each other".

 

He then added " We are a nation that represents a non-separable whole in its believes, method of thinking and dealing with life issues".

 

He explained: " We confront very great challenges that might block the continuity of our existence as a social, economic and even religious power. We have to realize the sensitivity of the phase, our existence on the world map, and how can we success internationally if we are still apart?".

 

He said that everybody is looking forward to this summit, and have much hope in it, because "If we have economic harmony, it is natural to soon have a fast political understanding. It is a must that the summit come up with serious responsible decisions up to the nature of the era ". He expressed his confidence that the leaders shall work on the execution of the resolutions of the summit, "as they are all in the same boat, and they are of course the ones in charge".

 

He added: "Before I talk about the status co of the Arab people and the Arab Comoros Islands, and I highlight the word Arab in reference to the free market, the unified currency, the customs union, and transit free zones among Arab countries as well as encouraging the Arab investors to invest in Arab countries. These are our keys for solving a lot of our economic issues or rather our common economic issues, and therefore sooth most of the political, social and cultural consequences of the Arab status co".

 

SAMBI called for opening the borders between Arab countries and requested everybody to provide tourist and transport facilities.

 

He said that Comoros Islands need the Arabs to consider as their economic setout and to be an economic centre for Arab interests, inviting attendees to consider it as the bridge between the Arabic and African capital.

 

He mentioned that his country enjoys great hydraulic wealth in addition to fresh underground waters and fertile lands that are not yet utilized. He called for directing investments to such land which is ready for investment, in addition to its low cost and high fiscal return. Comoros, in addition, is considered as one of the biggest fisheries not utilized till date.

 

SAMBI expressed his personal thanks and appreciation as well as the thanks and appreciation of his accompanying delegation to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti government and people for their hospitality, wishing His Highness success "We have no doubts that His Highness is qualified for this with his vast experience and political wisdom that makes us rest assured that the ship is lead by a wise and skilful captain".
