Kuwait university outstanding grads honored by H.H. The Amir at ceremony

Under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and with his attendance, the annual graduation ceremony for outstanding students of Kuwait University for the academic year 2006/7007 was held on Wednesday, 28 March, 2008 at Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Theater at Shuwaikh Campus.

The convoy of His Highness the Amir arrived at the university campus at 10: 30 a.m., and he was received by a reception committee headed by Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Nouriya Subeeh Al-Subeeh, and comprising Kuwait University Rector Dr. Abdullah Sulaiman Al-Fuhaid and faculty members.

The ceremony was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, members of the ruling family, Deputy Chief of National Guard Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, top state officials, family members of the graduates, and members of the public.

The ceremony commenced with the national anthem and a recitation of the Holy Quran, and then the education minister gave a speech in which she said that today's patronage of His Highness the Amir the ceremony held for outstanding graduates of Kuwait University was an honor and would further encourage them to succeed and exert utmost effort for their country.

The minister noted the keenness of Kuwait's political leadership for sponsoring education and science, and the emphasis it placed on honor students out of belief in the importance of knowledge as a tool for the development of nations and in guaranteeing a free and safe living for the people.

Knowledge, Al-Subeeh added, was a means for bringing security and prosperity for a society and a means to achieve social development. She added that this patronage by the Kuwaiti leader was a source of pride that in fact doubled the national responsibility born by educationalists. This responsibility, she explained, was namely to achieve the aspirations of the country in having a knowledgeable society and succeeding in the implementation of comprehensive educational development, while bringing a qualitative leap in the qualifications of graduates of local educational institutions.

Al-Subeeh, speaking on behalf of the graduates, said that after completing this critical phase of their lives, they pledged to contribute to the development and elevation of their country in all fields.

She also prayed for the good health of His Highness the Amir so that he may continue to guide Kuwait toward prosperity and advancement, while the country remained safe and stable, and the principles of cooperation and solidarity passed on by the forefathers continued to be observed.

This was followed by the speech of Kuwait University rector in which he thanked His Highness the Amir for his kind patronage of the event, which he said encouraged the faculty members to exert more efforts in their areas of expertise.

Al-Fuhaid said the university, thanks to the political leadership's support, would continue to improve its performance which aimed at preparing youth for the future, noting that the outstanding students being honored here today were proof of the university's keenness for the high qualifications of its graduates.

Addressing the graduates, he advised them to exercise principles of civil dialogue and constructive criticism, and to present their views while respecting others, which he said was a part of the teachings of Islam.

He reiterated that the attendance of the ceremony by His Highness the Amir was an honor for the graduates, calling on them to continue to work hard for the elevation of their country and its advancement.

To conclude, the rector eulogized the late Ahmad Al-Rubei, the former minister of education and minister of higher education, and prayed that Almighty Allah would have mercy on his soul and grant his family solace.

Furthermore, the graduate Bashayer Al-Majid gave the valedictorian speech in which she pledged, on behalf of her classmates, to follow the directives of His Highness the Amir in which he called on citizens to maintain national unity, the protective fence that maintained the country's security and stability.

She promised that the graduates would make Kuwait's prosperity and advancement a priority, adding that the presence of His Highness the Amir at the ceremony on this day was proof of his keenness for maintaining close contact with his people.

Following this, His Highness the Amir handed certificates to the outstanding graduates, and he was given a commemorative gift on this occasion. He left the theater with the same warm welcome with which he was received.
