Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah also said the oil industry of Kuwait faced huge challenges starting with explorations in early 1930s, through the circumstances coinciding with the second world war to the export of the first oil shipment in June 1946 under the rule of late Amir Sheikh Ahmad Jaber Al-Sabah. Kuwait, over the past long years, succeeded in realizing many achievements in oil field and were reflected on the economic, political and social developments, he said.

Sheikh Ahmad said KOC and its sister oil companies were placing strategic plans to facing numerous challenges related to the energy sector.

The minister said Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the mother company, was working constantly to increasing oil production from three million barrels per day to four million bpd by 2020.
He also said Kuwait was working on producing 650 million cubic feet per day of free gas by end of the five-year plan.

KOC Chairman Al-Rushaid, on the occasion of the ceremony, announced the discovery of a new field for light oil and gas in the northwest of Kuwait. He said the primary production was estimated at 80,000 barrels per day (bpd) of light crude and 110 million cubic feet of gas per day. The field, added Al-Rushaid, was in the area of Mutreba. "This is the beginning; preparations are underway to drill for specific wells to test the promising layers in this field." Talking about KOC, which was established in 1934, he said the company was contributing to at least 90 percent in Kuwait's national income.
Al-Rushaid said KOC was also active in the service of society.

Al-Rushaid said 58 percent of oil wells have been developed bringing Kuwait's production to 3.15 million bpd, KOC seeks to increase oil output to four million bpd by 2020 and to maintain this production until 2030.

Percentage of gases burned at fields were 17.5 percent in 2005-06, and was reduced to 2.5 percent in 2009.
