Forum espouses empowerment
of Kuwaiti women

The Kuwait Transparency Society (KTS) Women-Empowering Centre opened on Sunday the National Forum for Women under "Empowering Kuwaiti Females: A civilization Demand and Future View" sponsored and attended by Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, at the Salwa Hall.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Sheikh Nasser delivered greetings to the organizers on behalf of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who entrusted him with sponsoring the event.

He also emphasized support to young girls until they would be able to assume their social responsibilities saying that the forum had started last year as a "little bud and would grow to a flowering tree whose shadow provides protection to the country." Sheikh Nasser underscored the principle of transparency for the sake of securing full equality of duties and rights.

KTS Chairman Salah Mohamad Al-Ghazali, said the arrangements for the gathering were prompted by a chief aim of the Society, that is dissemination of family values among the populace, urging reform and combating corruption at all levels.

He added that the Women-Empowering Centre constituted one of the most important activities of the Society.

Al-Ghazali expressed gratitude to Sheikh Nasser for his sponsorship of the forum.

Head of the National Forum for Women, Dr Salwa Al-Jassar, also head of the Higher Committee for the National Project for Empowering Kuwaiti Women, said the basic aim of the forum sought to empower Kuwaiti women to effectively take part in whatever could enhance their role to develop the society.

"This is done through boosting women's self-confidence and qualifying them to be introduced to the various social and institutional fields," Al-Jassar said.

She underlined the necessity of coordinating official and private efforts to open the door for preparing young Kuwaiti women to be future leaders.
