Kuwaiti Amir honors winners of Qur'an competition

Under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait's 11th Grand Qur'an Memorization and Recitation Competition awards were handed to the winners at 8:30 p.m. Monday 1st October 2007, at Kuwait University's Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah Theater in Khaldiya.

His Highness the Amir was received by Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs Abdullah Al-Maatouq in addition to chairman and members of the Qur'an competition committee.

The ceremony was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Jassem Mohammad Al-Kharafi, Deputy Chief of the National Guard Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in addition to several other top officials.

The event began with a recitation of the holy Qur'an followed by a speech from Al-Maatouq who praised Allah The Almighty for seeing too many people in the Quran Competition.

Al-Maatouq commended the patronage of His Highness the Amir and said over 1, 144 male and female competitors, as well as students with special needs, took part in this year's competition, but only 145 were capable of memorizing and reciting the Holy Quran in accordance with Islamic standards.

Sheikh Sabah then handed awards to winners of the 11th Qur'an competition, and he was presented with a gift for his continuous support.
