Under the aegis, and with the attendance, of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a UNESCO ceremony to honor the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as an international personality of educational and cultural achievements was held here on Wednesday 5th November 2014.

His Highness the Amir was welcomed by Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee Sheikha Mona Al-Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the historic palace of the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Dasman suburb, where the ceremony was held.

His Highness the Amir then toured a photography exhibition held on the sidelines of the ceremony, featuring educational history in Kuwait and the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's achievements.

The event was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, former parliament speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi, senior sheikhs, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and several senior state officials.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah thanked His Highness the Amir for sponsoring and attending the ceremony and for his unlimited backing to all cultural activities in the country.

For his part, Sheikh Jaber Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the son of the late Sheikh Abdullah , Appreciating His Highness the Amir's sponsorship and participation in the event, he said that the palace of the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber is part of history.
Also addressing the event, Minister of Education and Higher Education Bader Al-Issa lauded the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber as a pioneer of culture, education and open-mindedness in Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf region.

For his part, Chief of the UNESCO Office in Beirut Dr. Hamad bin Seif Al-Hamami said the UNESCO's choice of the late Sheikh Abdullah as an international personality for 2014-15 came in recognition of his achievements, noting that his agency is eager to honor everyone who could contribute to human development.
